Becky's Story
My name is Becky and I am a People Greeter at the Walmart store in Brandon, Manitoba. I started working at Walmart as a Greeter in 1998 as part of a career preparation program through my high school. My good friend Barb would take me to the store once a week and taught me my job responsibilities. I was hired as a permanent Walmart associate in 2004.
As a People Greeter for Walmart my first priority is to put a smile on my customer’s face when they arrive and leave our store. I do this by greeting them with a big HELLO! And I make sure to thank them for stopping by when they leave. I get to meet lots of new people while greeting and I run into many people I know. I love helping customers that are senior citizens or customers that require extra help. I show them where wheel chairs or electric scooters are located. Many other customers come to me for information, they ask me where products and services are located and I point them in the right direction.
Another responsibility I have is to make sure that shopping baskets and carts are available for our customers. I work with hardworking cart collecting associates and when it gets really busy we sometimes run out of carts. Those guys work really hard to make sure there are enough carts in the building for me to give to my customers.
I really love my job working at Walmart, I have made many friends and I love the opportunity to visit with our customers. I’d like to thank the management team at Walmart for giving me the opportunity to put my people skills to work for them. There are some special accommodations that I need to keep my diabetes on track, and the Walmart management team has been very understanding since the first day I started there.
I love getting paid for the work I do, and my parents and I were so happy when my store manager approached me to work even more hours so that I could experience more of the benefits Walmart has to offer. The people who work at my store have made me feel very welcomed and valued! I look forward to going to work each and every shift!
